(Screening Instruments)

Used to determine if one's peripheral (side) vision is normal.


 

Computerized Threshold Visual Fields

Used to determine the exact amount of visual field loss when a defect is present.

Used to bill insurance claims electronically. Also, used to send patients a notice when it is time to be re-evaluated.

 

Digital Retinal Camera

A digital retinal camera helps to follow patients with retinal and optic nerve disease.  It is exceptionally helpful in following patients with diabetes and glaucoma.

 

GDx Retinal Nerve Fiber Analyzer

The GDx instrument measures the thickness of nerve fiber layer with a scanning laser.  In glaucoma, the retinal nerve fiber layer loses thickness because of nerve damage due to the eye pressure.

The OCT Scanning Laser
(Optical Coherence Tomography)
This instrument measures the structure of the retina.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) generates cross-sectional images of the internal structures of the eye. It performs high-resolution, micron-scale, crosspsectional, or tomographic imaging of tissue structure or pathology.

Preferential Hyperacuity Perimetry (PHP)
This instrument measures the function of the macula (the center of the retina)

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is classified as either wet or dry. The PHP test helps us determine when "dry macular degeneration" starts changing to "wet macular degeneration". The earlier we can detect wet macular degeneration and refer to a retinal specialist, the better the visual outcome.
